New Wortley Community Centre

Here at ATM, we regularly collaborate with fellow construction companies on projects in our local communities.

Ours friends at BAM Nuttall have been working on a project for Leeds Council and they contacted the local housing offices to see who may require some support within the community.

BAM were put in touch with Wortley Community Centre near Armley in Leeds, one of the only community-owned Centres in the area, who needed a little help in refurbishing the outside area of their centre.

Broken perimeter fencing needed replacing, new panels installing and painting to match the colour of the Centre.

BAM invited us to come along and help the Centre’s 'Urban Task Force' (volunteers from the local community) and together, a collaborative team effort was undertaken, to restore the fence to its former glory!

Alongside this wonderful project, Leeds Civic Trust have been running their ‘Take a Seat’ initiative, a project which came to fruition from the Trust's admiration of how local communities have come together during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The initiative has seen a colourful community of benches unveiled, from Guiseley to Beeston, Horsforth to Gipton, providing a place to contemplate the last year and by their imaginative designs, allow local communities to tell their individual Covid story.

Fifteen benches have been decorated, painted, carved and curated by a variety of local groups and arts organisations who submitted successful applications to the Civic Trust. They have gradually been making their way into our parks, green spaces, community centres and high streets this Summer and New Wortley Community Centre were chosen as one of the fifteen!

This week, the Lord Mayor visited the Centre for the grand unveiling of the bench, which looked beautiful in its new home, coupled with the freshly installed and newly painted fence.

ATM attended, along with BAM; it was lovely to meet some of the local community and chat with the volunteers who had helped on the project also.

We were immensely honoured to have been invited to assist BAM at New Wortley Community Centre, it was a real pleasure seeing the completed project and we would like to congratulate the Centre and all its volunteers, wishing them huge success, for their continuing, selfless efforts within the community.
