Bath University Grounds Maintenance

ATM recently undertook tree felling, stump grinding and fencing works at Bath University’s Sulis Club facility.

The primary objective was to dismantle 160 x Leyland Cypress’ and remove all of the stumps, whilst avoiding any damage to the adjacent high standard sports pitch surfaces.

Our skilled operatives installed a temporary roadway and working area using aluminium trakmats around the perimeter of the pitches and adjacent to each block of trees to allow large enough machinery to access and safely dismantle the target trees, without damaging the ground underneath.

We then implemented exclusion zones around the work area boundaries which were up against a neighbouring school and numerous public rights of way. We also implemented TM cover to get the big kit in to site and to safely dismantle the trees within reach of the carriageway. Some of which were entangled in BT cables and other street furniture, so plenty to think about!

Mechanisation was essential for scale, safety and programme, and the Leibherr 924 / Merlo 50.30 with grapplesaws working alongside the UFKES 962 whole tree chipper, made short work of the felling and processing work.

The McConnell robopower and UFKES stump grinder was then deployed to remove the stumps, and made short work of it in just under a week, considering some of the stumps were in excess of 1.5m across!

The works were completed with the installation of a stock fence around the perimeter of each plot, to act as a ball-guard in order to protect the upcoming landscaping installation scheme.

Great project to be a part of from the offset and huge thanks to all of our valued supply chain and own staff involved for their outstanding work!
